Maternal mortality in Nigeria is 512/100,000 births and this is the worst in the world according to the World Health Organisation. When compared to, there is more likelihood of dying of pregnancy and childbirth related causes is 1 in 22 compared to 1 in 4,900 in developed countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted among other things many health related services including antennal services which are key to safe delivery as women are expected to have at least 8 visitations before delivery but this has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is need to put in place better arrangements in accessing healthcare for many pregnant women. For instance, 2/3rd of many births are done by midwives and nurses and in cases where there are no PPEs, health workers have to rely on regular handwashing and the use of surgical gloves and aprons among others. COVID-19 curfew, closed facilities, reduction in number of health workers and professionals and reduction in the number of antenatal visitations are some factors that affected pregnant women during the COVID-19 lockdown
